THE SANCTUARY

A neutral palette enriched by tactile materials creates a deeply tranquil space. Our health-conscious client’s wishes to minimize allergens and synthetic materials in the home aligned with our core values. We opted for natural fibers, organic latex foams, traceable wood products, and rooted our design process in the remarkable natural landscape surrounding the home.

  • In addition to Interior Design, we offered Interior Architecture services: sourced and procured furnishings, window treatments, and accessories. We also partnered with the architect to select hardware, built in design, mirrors, and other architectural details.

  • To create an enveloping headboard in the primary bedroom, the plaster wall was expertly curved, and the integral nightstands give a seamless feeling. Reclaimed oiled oak finishes add warmth without heaviness, and traversing sheers defer to the view in every room.

  • We designed custom upholstered furniture fabricated with non-toxic latex and other materials. No synthetic fabric blends were used throughout the project and there was great vigilance to select products with no VOCs or harmful chemical coatings.

This minimal home reflects the clients' desire for a clean palette for meditative reflection and motion, and a blank canvas for more transient elements such as food, music, beach stones or a yoga mat to take center stage.

The design process was a true exercise of intentionality and extreme restraint. We took extra consideration in the selection of each and every material and color.

TEXTURES THAT SPEAK COMFORT + INSPIRE CALM

The artisanal tadelakt (ancient plaster finish) and lime wash walls create a feeling of how we imagine the inside of a white clay pot would be.

DEVOTION TO THE DETAILS

Everything about the house is tactile and comforting, while holding a deep respect for the pristine site. From the acoustics to the textures, the natural light quality to the Belgian oak underfoot, it is the perfect backdrop for a restorative retreat. We love how the client named one of the rooms "the sanctuary" during the design process. It signified how sacred the space is, and how every material plays a role in facilitating peace and wellbeing.
