SALT SHACK
We saw this 100-year old Menemsha cottage and wanted to preserve all its character and personality, while adding the modern touches that make our clients' homes comfy cozy.
Nestled behind Menemsha Pond, the cottage boasts a prime location for enjoying stunning sunsets, a feature that was taken into account when designing the layout and flow of the spaces including enhancing natural light, optimizing views, and using a palette and materials that reflect the natural surroundings.

We wanted this to be a home beloved for its charm, history and modern functionality. A re-defined floor plan increased the living space while still accommodating two upper-level bedrooms and a private lower-level suite. A perfect spot for extended family to gather all year long.

Our intention for this project was to capture the lively essence of summer on the Vineyard, while providing a cozy and creative retreat for those visiting in the off-season. We decided to explore some bolder expressions that we may not typically do for a client's summer or family home.

We designed and hand-painted the vibrant blue mural adorning the tile above the bright yellow range. Inspired by the landscape visible through the west-facing windows, the mural reflects a charming harbor scene. (Pictured below.)
FROM A SUMMERS-ONLY COTTAGE TO A UNIQUE YEAR-ROUND RETREAT
We wrapped the house in an insulation blanket, retaining the charm of the exposed framing, gave it vibrant coats of paint, high-end plumbing, beautiful brass light switches, outrageously fun tile and sweet lighting. It was a pure delight to interact with this water-view gem and bring out the best of her.
SWEET NOOKS TO ENJOY THE PICTURESQUE VIEWS
This century-old home was once dark, isolating, and enclosed. Our primary vision was to transform it by inviting in natural light. A former closet became a cozy twin nook with a west-facing window, perfectly positioned to capture the view and provide an additional, sunlit sleeping space.
A SHOWHOUSE INSPIRED BY 100 YEARS OF SUNSETS
We’ve dubbed this project a “showhouse” because it allowed us to explore new design ideas, push creative boundaries, and prioritize preservation and healthy materials throughout the process.
Nestled in a location that has been bathed in Menemsha’s iconic sunsets for over a century, this home pays homage to the magical golden hour light that graces it so often, infusing every detail with the warmth and beauty of its surroundings.
